The Benefits of Foam Rolling

Foam rollers are an excellent tool to reach knots in your muscles that a regular stretch may not alleviate, and can be used for warming up and cooling down before or after a strenuous workout. Adding rolling to your daily routine offers many advantages ranging from improved circulation, better flexibility and mobility, reduced inflammation and a reduction in scar tissue and joint stress. Foam rolling regularly provides similar benefits as a sports massage by increasing the mobility of the fascia, which is the layer of connective tissue that surrounds all of the muscles in your body. When your mobility is compromised, the fibers of the fascia can bind to your muscles and nerves resulting in pain from the inhibition of normal motion.

Foam rollers are a cheap investment if you train regularly, and can save you tons of money on massages and physio-rehabilitation in the long run if you are proactive about your recovery. They are also great for removing the build up of lactic acid post-workout and will have you feeling fresh and limber in no time.
