Dana White Goes Off on Mario Yamasaki Over Lee-Chiesa Stoppage at UFC Fight Night 112
It’s no secret that Dana White is not a fan of Steve Mazzagatti, a Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) referee. As of UFC Fight Night 112 it seems Mario Yamasaki, or “Mario Mazzagatti,” as Dana White called him, is now on the shortlist too.
Mario Mazzagatti does it again!!! This guy is more concerned with doing this dumb ass heart bullshit then Ref'n the fight!!! Steals a great moment from Lee or let Mike fight it or tap. Nobody gives a shit that u can make a heart with ur hands like a 12 year old girl they want u to pay attention to what's going on in the fight and do ur job.
Nobody gives a shit that u can make a heart with ur hands like a 12 year old girl they want u to pay attention to what’s going on in the fight and do ur job.”During the first round of the grudge match between lightweights Kevin Lee and Michael Chiesa, Lee locked in a rear-naked choke and was moments away from putting Chiesa to sleep when Yamasaki stepped in and called off the fight at 4:37 of the opening round.Chiesa, rightfully upset, immediately shouted that he didn’t tap. He also stated he wanted to rematch Lee in December, though Lee has his sights set on Khabib Nurmagomedov.
This wasn’t the only bad call by Yamaski that evening. During the strawweight fight between Maryna Moroz (8-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and former champ Carla Esparza (12-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC), Moroz blatantly held onto Esparza’s gloves as they grappled, but Yamaski instead chose to stand the fight up for a lack of action to the dismay of Esparza and the spectators.
Yamasaki has been a UFC referee for over a decade but this is the first time his judgement has come under such heavy fire. Maybe he was having an off night, however, when you’re reffing a full-contact combat sport that’s not much of an excuse.
